in honour of the 100th Anniversary of WWI
Saturday November 11
Ruthven Park National Historic Site
243 Haldimand County Hwy 54, Cayuga, ON N0A 1E0

Dr. Marty Wood, Social History Professor at Georgian College, will give a talk on the Thompson women, followed by the performance.

In honour of the 100th anniversary of the First World War, Studio Babette tells the true story of the sacrifice made by the Thompson family of Cayuga. From Ruthven to Passchendaele is the compelling story of the sacrifice made by so many Canadians in the CEF, the Canadian Expeditionary Force. See the soldiers journey, from the green meadows of Ontario, to the muck and mire of Passchendaele, to the antiseptic solace of the hospitals in England.

Music, shadow play, sound and light effects, detailed props, and a large cast of 14 table-top puppets all make viewing this play with puppets a unique opportunity to experience Canadian history up close. The puppets wear detailed historical costumes from 1904 - 1917, and songs are native to the time. This production also honours the contribution made by the Native population in the 114 Battalion Infantry of Cayuga, nicknamed “Brock’s Rangers”.

This original play was made possible through the generous support received from Veterans Affairs Canada’s Community Engagement Partnership Fund. From Ruthven to Passchendaele is designed to enhance the Ontario Curriculum for Grade 8 History, Grade 10 History, Grade 10 Civics, as well as Drama programs at all grade levels.

From Ruthven to Passchendaele enacts the compelling story of one family's experiences in WWI with humour, compassion and grit. Father and sons enlisted, while mother and daughter volunteered in the hospitals of London, nursing the wounded, keeping morale up. Don't miss this inspiring tale that will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye.

Student shows also available during school hours.
